Recording of Attendance and Progress Check

Recording of Attendance

To obtain a PASS grade in this Healthy Lifestyle Course (HLTH1010), students must complete the following during the academic year:

i.

Complete the module requirements and obtain a PASS in each of the 5 modules (i.e. Orientation, Wellness, Fitness Training, Sports Skill Class, and Activities); and

ii. Accumulate a total of at least 45 course hours.

Those who cannot obtain a PASS grade in this Healthy Lifestyle Course (HLTH1010) at the end of the academic year must repeat the course in the following academic year. Repeated failures will be subject to dismissal from the University.

Students will accumulate course hours through attending and participating in course events organized or endorsed by the Course Office, and by self sports practices at the campus sports facilities. The attendance hours for each course event or self sports practice are to be awarded based on attendance AND active participation. Failure to complete the attendance and participation requirements of a course event or self sports practice would be taken as not satisfying the course requirements and the related attendance hours will NOT be recognized and recorded.

How to Record Your Attendance

For classes or events organized by the HLTH1010 Course Office

These may include the Health and Fitness Assessments, Getting Started@HKUST & Course Introduction Session, Fitness Training Class, Sports Skill Class, Wellness & Personal Enrichment events and Community or Voluntary Work.

Before the start of the class or event, students should present their student cards to staff of the Course Office for verification and processing. The Course Office will report the attendance of all participants to the Recording System after the class or event.

Normally, the attendance will be uploaded to the system within 7 working days after the activity is held AND reported unless otherwise stated.

For HLTH1010 Course Office endorsed events organized by student groups or other university offices/units

These may include the Intramural Sports Competitions, Intervarsity Sports Competitions, regular Club/Team practices, Wellness & Personal Enrichment events and Community or Voluntary Work etc.

Students should present their student cards to the Event Organizer for verification and processing BOTH AT ENTRY AND AT EXIT OF THE EVENT.

The Event Organizer is responsible for submitting the accurate attendance record together with the event report to the Course Office within 7 working days after the completion of event.

The Course Office will notify the Event Organizer by email after the attendance has been uploaded; and the Event Organizer should inform the participating students to check their attendance record.

The Event Organizer should inform the Course Office by email to hlstyle@ust.hk if any discrepancy was found. NO adjustment of the attendance record will be accepted after the attendance is uploaded for 5 working days.

For Self Sports Practices at Campus Sports Facilities

For self sports practice undertaken by students at designated sports facilities, a maximum of one course hour per day (seven hours in a week) will be recorded. Self sports practice time shorter than 40 minutes will NOT be recorded.

For students who plan to accumulate course hours through self sports practice at designated sports facilities, they must be dressed in proper sports attire and be present at the sports facility during the practice period. The self sports practice records will be canceled if students are found NOT present at the sports facility or NOT dressed in appropriate sports attire during the log-in hours.

Students may record their attendance hours of self sports practice through one of the two following ways:

a)

At venues where HLTH1010 computerized recording station is installed
(S.H. Ho Sports Hall, LG4 sports facilities, Swimming Pools, Artificial-turf Soccer Pitch, etc.)

Log-in at the sports facility: Students must be dressed in proper sports attire and insert their student card into the card reader of the computerized recording station at the start of the self sports practice.

Log-out from the sports facility: Students must insert their student card into the card reader of the same computerized recording station IMMEDIATELY AFTER they have finished their workout or exercise.

i.   Only a maximum of one hour per day will be recorded if the students have log in their attendance at the sports facility but forget to log out. They will receive an e-mail to remind them to do proper log-out in subsequent self-practice hours. For students who forget to log out from the sports facility properly for the second time, NO self-practice hours will be recorded.

ii.  Under special circumstances when the computerized recording system is not in normal operation (such as breakdown of the network, power failure, etc.), students should fill out the attendance record form obtainable from the duty sports attendant at the sports facility service counters, and submit the completed form to the nearest facility service counter before leaving the facility.

b)

At venues where no HLTH1010 computerized recording station is installed
(Tennis courts and most outdoor facilities)

Students should fill out an attendance record form and drop it into a designated collection box near the facility before leaving the facility. Details include date, time and venue occupied as well as student number and signature. Blank forms are available at the various facilities.
