Introduction

The "Getting Started@HKUST" and the HLTH1010 Course Introduction is a required activity of the HLTH1010 Course.

HKUST is full of opportunities and possibilities - the secret of getting ahead is getting started! In the session, students will learn about the Healthy Lifestyle Course (HLTH1010) requirements and the wide range of resources to support students in leading a healthy and happy life on campus. They will also learn about the part they can play so that all of us will live and learn harmoniously in a diverse and dynamic environment. In addition, they will find out what they need to know to tailor a path for their first year success through hearing stories from senior students about how they made the most of their university experience.

HLTH1010 Students should attend one of the 6 sessions held on 23 and 24 August 2018 to attain 3 course hours attendance in the "Orientation" module of the HLTH1010 Course.

Advance Registration is required and will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis until one day before the event.

In the event of a cancelled session due to adverse weather, affected students will receive email to their HKUST email account regarding the make-up session arrangement.

Students who cannot attend the session held on 23 and 24 August 2018 are advised to contact the Healthy Lifestyle Course Office (Tel. 2358-8586 or email hlstyle@ust.hk) for assistance no later than 3 September 2018.

 

Progress Check

The 3 course hours will be uploaded to the HLTH1010 Course record within 7 working days after students have successfully completed the session. Students can check their progress of the HLTH1010 Course at http://my.ust.hk/

Click "Healthy Lifestyle Course" under "My Studies" in the "Home" tab of myPortal.

Notes to Participants

1. Punctuality

To avoid interruption and hindering the progress of session, participants are advised to arrive at the session venue 10 minutes before the session starting time. The instructor may turn away students who are late for more than 5 minutes, and will be required to register again so that you can attend another session.

   
2. Attendance Recording
Participants will be required to identify themselves by presenting their university student ID card for verification and attendance taking BOTH AT ENTRY AND AT EXIT OF THE SESSION. The organizer may refuse participants from joining the session if they failed to present the university ID card.

The attendance hours are to be awarded based on attendance AND active participation. Failure to complete the attendance and participation requirements of the session would be taken as not satisfying the course requirements and the related attendance hours will NOT be recognized and recorded.
   
3. Be Considerate
To show your respect to the presenter, you are advised to follow the instructions provided. No computers are allowed in the session.
   
4. Arrangement in case of Bad Weather
 
a.
When the Amber or Red Rainstorm Warning or Typhoon Signal No. 1 or 3 is in effect, sessions will be held as scheduled.
 
b.
When a Black Rainstorm Warning is in force, sessions will be canceled. Those in progress will normally continue until the end of the session.
 
c.
When a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is to be issued within 2 hours (pre-No. 8), all sessions will be canceled. Those in progress will normally continue until the end of the session.
 
d.
If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm Warning is LOWERED,
 
-
at or before 6:30am, sessions starting from 9am and onwards will be held as scheduled;
-
at or before 12noon, sessions starting before 2pm will be canceled while sessions starting from 2pm and onwards will be held as scheduled;
-
After 12noon, sessions starting from 12noon and onwards will be canceled.
